I am new to this forum, but I have seen posts that say this company is no longer in operation (granted that was in Sept. of 2007), but I have found a website for them http://www.rapidexplorer.com with a copyright of 2008 that has a latest news link dated 3/2/08.  What gives?  Is this a good way to get to St. Barts from St. Martin?

RapidExplorer returned to service a few weeks ago, after being out of service for a bit over 18 months.  It is now operating out of Captain Oliver's Marina in Oyster Pond, rather than Bobby's Marina in Phillipsburg.  The ferry is being operated by a new company, Om Express.  They appear to be using the same ship that RapidExplorer was previously using.

As ferries go, RapidExplorer was the most comfortable and least objectionable of the three ferries.  I prefer to fly, but if forced to take a ferry I would opt for Rapid Explorer.

Wendy's going by Rapid Explorer to St. Maarten in the morning . . . returning in the afternoon.  She formerly (when it used to run) loved the late afternoon arrival into Gustavia harbor on the Rapid Explorer.  I'll let you know tomorrow night whether it continues to meet expectations of romantic memories.

Wendy went on Thursday morning via Rapid Explorer to St. Maarten . . . and returned in the afternoon.  She said that the boat was very comfortable and pleasant, as it also had been before being out of service for a time.  The trip to St. Maarten was smooth and provided a very nice viewing platform for taking-in the many pleasure boats, cruise ships, and a sea level context for the area . . . a different perspective from the one enjoyed in flight.

The return portion of the trip, however, was through choppy waters . . . on time arrival into Gustavia harbor, nonetheless.

A late afternoon arrival on the Rapid Explorer continues to garner an A+ for its sleek comfort, picturesque approach to St. Barths, and for cutting through bounding seas with minimal discomfort.
